As a child growing up in the Scottish Highlands and Islands in the early 1950s, Christmas Day was never as lavish and commercialized as it is today. However, it had its magic when on the morning of the 25th there was a stocking filled with sweets, a tangerine, some dates and an envelope with 10/- note inside. The money was a gift from a retired aunt whose generosity was so special to me. A ‘ten bob note’ seemed a fortune and indeed it was a lot of money for a child. I used to gaze with wonder at the note. Perhaps the seeds for collecting notes was sown then but the fact is that banknotes still retain a great appeal for so many people. Have a browse through the site and hopefully, you find a note to add to the collection. Happy Christmas to you.
